A small building, called
the "Treidelstation" is erected on the banks of the Rhine in 1541; here, the
horses that pull the barges up the river by way of ropes are changed. The public house "Krone" is opened in 1809.
In 1893, the cooper Joseph Hufnagel purchases the building and renovates it in the romantic "Rhenish-style" with half-timbering, oriels, and corner turrets. Joseph Hufnagel opens "his" Krone with an internationally noted celebration in 1894, marking the 50th anniversary of the completion of Ferdinand Freiligrath's most important work at the "Krone". In 1903/1904 two further buildings, behind the main house, are extended. The Biedermeier-house is renovated in a historical style. Joseph Hufnagel purchases the neighbouring residence of the architect and cavalry captain Augustin in 1908. It is developed as the "Parkhotel". The hotel is further developed in 1927/1928, the number of beds increases to 120. The swimming pool-one of the first in Germany's hotels, is opened. Part of the garden is designed as the "wistaria-terrace". In 1988, Dr. Irene Hufnagel and her husband H. B. Ullrich acquire the hotel Krone from the family trustees. The hotel is brought to the highest standards in 5 distinct phases of construction and renovation. A five-star hotel: reside in the luxury of a romantic and historical hotel.
